Aim of a Website
I believe a web designer's ultimate aim should be to achieve a design that is both attractive or aesthetically pleasing, whose theme matches exactly to their service. The loading time of the site is another main factor, optimization of all graphic/image elements for the entire website, file size is of paramount importance. Nobody waits for long to download a web page, and the last thing we need is for a visitor to find us then leave before they have even seen whats on offer.
User friendliness Easy-to-use navigation and well laid-out easily readable content, without entirely compromising on either of them. There are many extremes of website design, from cluttered content and hard-to-navigate complex designs to plain simple designs that have no structure, therefore have links and text all over the page. A professional web designer needs to be able to create a web design that is impressive, cohesive, well laid out, fast-loading and easy to use. The programming needs to be understood by the designer and no compromise can be made in creating a well coded and error free website that ensures a uniform user experience and is web standards compliant (valid XHTML/CSS), accessible and cross browser compatible.
SEOS (Search Engine Optimization Strategy) is an invaluable knowledge that all web designers require, it is not enough to make something look pretty or stunning, we need visitors and lots of them. I have good sound knowledge of SEOS and the basics are not going to change, but there are rules that change and I keep up to date with them as time goes by. SEOS is about having the correct amount of keywords, descriptive content all in the right places.
